West Georgia cycling tour. A bike journey through 4 authentic regions of the country — Racha, Lechkhumi, Imereti and Samegrelo. Martvili canyons, waterfalls and delicious Georgian food

Day 1. Meeting in Kutaisi. Route: Racha—Lechkhumi

Cycling: 35 km
To join the tour, please arrive in Kutaisi by 12:00 on the first day.

First we drive 85 km up into the beautiful Racha region, where our ride begins.
Racha and Lechkhumi are breathtaking nature: cosy lanes winding between green mountains, overhanging cliffs and rushing rivers. This is the terroir of unique grape varieties that produce the most prized Georgian wines.

  • We ride along the picturesque Shaori reservoir
  • Admire ancient frescoes in one of Georgia's most beautiful 11th-century churches
  • Visit the Khvanchkara winery and hear the story of the legendary wine
  • Have lunch at a family restaurant among the vineyards
We spend the night in the village of Tvishi, among huge cliffs on the riverbank.

Day 2. Lechkhumi—Imereti. Past vineyards and mountains to an ancient city

Cycling: 49 km
A scenic road through vineyards, waterfalls and bizarre rock formations brings us to Kutaisi, the capital of Imereti. We stroll through the ancient city in the evening and listen to unique Georgian polyphonic singing, protected by UNESCO.

Over dinner we share our impressions and taste Imeretian dishes in a colourful restaurant on the banks of the Rioni.

Day 3. Imereti—Samegrelo. A wonder of nature — the Martvili Canyon

Cycling: 47 km

The route passes through the spa town of Tskaltubo, famous in Soviet times for its radon baths and badly hit after the collapse of the USSR.
Today Tskaltubo is coming back to life. We ride through the spa park and see traces of its former grandeur alongside signs of its revival.

Then on to our destination — the Martvili Canyon, a true wonder of nature. The keenest riders can take a dip in the canyon's emerald waters after a full day.

Day 4. Hike to the waterfalls. A rare wine tasting. A Megrelian feast.

Route: 12 km

There's so much beauty around that we don't want to leave, so we stay a little longer in this generous and varied land. We hike to 3 of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. If you're tired, you can simply rest today and enjoy the beauty of the canyons.

In the evening — a tasting of one of the rarest wines in a princely wine cellar, and a delicious home-cooked dinner from Megrelian hostesses.

Day 5. The gifts of Samegrelo

Cycling: 35 km

Emerald rivers running between white rocky banks. Neat villages with orchards and hazelnut plantations. One more day to enjoy the amazing beauty of West Georgia.

We finish our route at another stunning canyon on a beautiful Megrelian river.

After a swim, some rest and a picnic, we transfer to Kutaisi, where our journey ends.

Day 6. See you again!
Breakfast together and the end of the programme.
Transfer to the airport.

Anyone who wants to carry on travelling can relax by the sea — we'll share our favourite spots on Georgia's Black Sea coast.
